Exploring Dreamland

 In Community

Packed and ready to go, Anna (from Independent Oxford) and I hit the road eagerly anticipating our weekend away in Margate to visit the much instagram-ed rainbow amusement park that is Dreamland.

We packed for sunshine and weren’t disappointed when we arrived at our AirBnB in a smart town house, turned apartment block, on a seafront road leading into Margate. Dumping our things, we headed out along the prom to towards the centre where swathes of grotty arcades, fish and chip shops and an enormous wetherspoons jostled for space along the seafront; as well as a closed down Primark and countless shutter doors graffiti-ed in a whole host of kiss-me-quick seaside colours. Presiding over the vista is Arlington Tower, a concrete 1960s 18 story apartment block, punctuating the strip and adding to the grungy seaside charm of Margate.

In contrast to the seaside scene, the newly revamped Dreamland is a beacon of rejuvenation combining nostalgic seaside charm and creative design; and of course a whole rainbow of colour!

The amusement park originally opened in the 1860s, and over the years has held host to the likes of the Rolling Stones and T.Rex. In 2017 the park received further funding to create the beautiful outdoor space and colourful art installations that the park now boasts; a perfect spot for an #incolourfulcompany meet up!

In Colourful Company was founded by Toni Bee who started the collective to bring together like minded individuals to create a positive and supportive group of colourful creatives and colour lovers all over the world. There is a facebook group, website and a whole host of meet up events, from colour walks across the UK and Europe, as well as visits to colourful places like Disneyland Paris and of course Dreamland.

Toni teamed up with Lucky Dip Club founder and Margate resident Leona, to organise our awesome day, including beach hut decorations, Lucky Dip Club goodies and lots of colourful photo ops!

So do you fancy a colourful tour of this awesome seaside happy place? Of course you do! Well, let’s go! >>

I would definitely recommend a road trip to this awesome place! Check out their events to see what else they have planned this year, and why not make a weekend of it – Margate’s mix of shabby seaside and burgeoning creative scene is sure to capture your heart.

Happy seaside adventures!

Love, Rosie xxx
